Noncancerous Pancreatic Disorders at Central & Northeastern PA Berwick
Pancreatic disorders include pancreatitis and pseudocysts of the pancreas. Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas, and in some cases the pancreatic enzymes destroy itself. Pancreatitis can be acute or life-threatening. Pseudocysts are masses in the pancreas that are composed of a collection of fluid, dead tissue, enzymes, and blood. With both disorders, symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, fever, and swelling of the abdomen. The diagnosis for both can involve x-rays, ultrasound, CT scan, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, a process by which a doctor uses x-ray and an endoscope to examine the pancreas.
