Symptoms include extremely high fevers, chills, rapid breathing, and rapid heart rate. The body often goes into shock, red spots can appear, and there can be severely decreased urination if left untreated. Blood cultures, urine cultures, skin lesion cultures, platelet counts, and clotting studies are all used in the diagnosis process. Once diagnosed, patients are admitted to the hospital, where they have given antibiotics, fluids, oxygen, and even plasma.
